Unlike many other certifications, the SCJP certificate is a test which really shows something. If you don’t have a long term career behind you or could prove your Java skills in some kind of Open Source project, the SCJP (Sun certificated java programmer) certificate will quickly show your Java skills to any headhunter or potential employer you are speaking too.
Even if you are not looking for a job because you are already the Boss, it’s pretty good if you have programmers on board who passed this exam. Your customers will thank you.
A SCJP has a pretty good knowledge of the core aspects of Java. He knows how Garbage Collection is working, what the Collection APIs are for and all the tricky basic stuff which decides about good or bad code style and performance. They know what object orientation is and understand how the JVM is supposed to work. After all, a SCJP is somebody who can do the Job. He does not need to trial and error, he knows where the nuts and bolts are.
I have passed the exam myself before several years and gave similar trainings several times. Now I have prepared a good bunch of slides to give trainings at your site or in the Open Source School class room. If you are in need for a conference room, please let me know. If have many contacts in several city and might be able to help out.
The SCJP training is targeting at young developers who already know how to handle Eclipse in a basic way. They are already on a project or have worked a bit with Java and would now like to step more deeply into Java. If you are in doubt, please call in, we can discuss what you need.
Usual trainings are scheduled for 3 days. If the trainees have less experience, we can extend the training to 5 days. In case you need a more basic training for beginners, we might reduce the SCJP training to a easier level.
After this training you have a good knowledge of what’s going on in the Java world and can practice on your own until you decide to do the exam.
The whole training is based on the excellent book SCJP for Java 6 by Katherine Sierra et al. Trainings can be held in english or german.
Please ask me for details.
