Today I found a very interesting success story from China. Yuekou is a startup from China, founded by 5 young graduates. Ms. Lv is one of the five. And one day her grandpa Liu Xianping came to help unpacking the clothes. He is 72. And he started to give good advises how to mix the clothes and for fun they made a photo shooting with him. There is an interview (I translated it with Google and got a little help from a few friends to understand it) in which Liu says something like:
I have nothing to lose and modeling helps my granddaughter. We had much fun at the shooting. I am old and just want to be happy. – Liu Xianping (roughly translated)
Wow. When reading this statement I was not only impressed by the great idea and the courage of the startup to do something extraordinary like this. Liu shows how we should look at life. I felt I was not wrong with the Zen Programmer. He thinks he needs to do it and simply does it. No matter what. Again: wow. Thank you for the inspiration.
From business point of view one hears sales could increase 5 times and the click rate has grown 10 times. I cannot verify the numbers, there are a few of them in the internet. Besides I have heard a photo shoot of a china model has a cost of 170 € which is a lot for China and young startup in general. They safe these costs because they use what they have. When I was a rock musician (before ages) my band and I often played songs which were to difficult to us and our gigs were not so successful. Then we simplified everything so much that that we could play them perfectly. Although the songs were simple, the gigs were unbelievable great. We had the same strategy: use, what you have. Good reminder.
It seems Liu Xianping has become a star in China. There are a plenty of press articles around this, including western media. This is one of the ideas I always want to have. Good luck, Yuekou team and Liu Xianping.
